The Man in the Silo
Available on Prime Video, Tubi TV, Amazon Freevee
Marcus Wells (Ernie Hudson), a successful African-American businessman, awakes to find himself in a dilapidated grain silo. He walks outside to find a seemingly deserted farmhouse, which triggers a flood of haunting memories. His wife Emily insisted they move to her childhood home, to care for her ailing grandmother, Sara. However, this new environment was anything but welcoming for Marcus and their son Carl. Sara never approved of her granddaughter marrying a black man, and as a result a bitter rivalry festered between her and Marcus. The tension in the household erupts in the form of a shouting match with the married couple, and ends in a tragic car accident…leaving Emily and their son Carl dead. Marcus made a promise to his wife on her deathbed to take care of Sara. He is now obligated to look after the one person who despises him. After the accident she is wheelchair bound and has lost the ability to speak. In taking care of Sara, Marcus begins to imagine all of her incidental moans are actually purposeful forms of communication, beckoning her late husband to come back from the dead to kill him. Charlie, Sara’s late husband, died in a grain silo accident long ago, and shared her hostility and racism toward the “farm help.” Marcus’ mental stability begins to fray, and starts believing that Charlie is in fact coming back from the dead to kill him. Marcus battles with himself to either take his own life or confront his increasingly paranoid delusions.
