Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It's a tall tale, a legend, of steadfastness, courage, camaraderie, gallantry and greed, though not necessarily in that order.
Fresh: John Huston has been wanting to make this movie for more than 20 years. It was worth the wait.
Fresh: It's been a long time since there's been an escapist entertainment quite this unabashed and thrilling and fun.
Fresh: Connery and Caine (both excellent) become classic Huston overreachers, and echoes of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and Moby Dick permeate the mythic yarn.
Carneehan ... former Gunnery Sargeant in Her Majesty's Forces
I am patient, I have to be with iTunes most days, but every once in a while the patience pays off. For all the "Gigli"'s and "American Pie part 692" they manage to put a TRULY beautiful, classic, miraculous movie like this one. I cannot in any way, shape, or form recommend this movie highly enough!
It's beautifully shot, the acting is of a caliber that defies categorization, the music is beautiful, and the plot... ah the plot! Sean Connery is at his utmost best, Michael Caine is brilliant, and Christopher Lee is great himself as the foil in the plot to seize power in far off Kafiristan. So, yeah, GET THIS FILM!!! It is, bar none, the best film I have seen in decades and ranks right up there with the "Jean de Florette/Manon de la Source" duology as the most perfect tragedy I've ever seen.
My favorite Movie Ever
This is the greatest 'Empire' movie ever made. It just barely edges out 'Zulu' also with Michael Caine. This movie should be required viewing for any anglophile or Brit.
It doesn't get better than this.
