Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: A tremendously exciting popcorn spectacle, and also a portrait of extraplanetary survival convincing enough that it had my tech-obsessed 11-year-old companion on his feet cheering on several occasions. – Andrew O'Hehir, Salon.com, Oct 1, 2015

Fresh: Damon has never seemed more at home than he does here, millions of miles adrift. Would any other actor have shouldered the weight of the role with such diligent grace? – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Dec 8, 2015

Fresh: What's so stirring about the film is that, before and after everything else, it truly is about being human. – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal, Oct 1, 2015

Fresh: This is science fiction for sophisticated audiences and, as such, a fulfilling and satisfying experience. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Oct 2, 2015

Was expecting a bit more

I really didn't like how they handled the ending. Seemed like it could have gone another 20 minutes easy. All told, this reminded me of Cast Away: NASA instead of FedEx, less water and no Wilson.

Nice

They did a good Job at this movie but too many Arguments and less Action but otherwise this was a good movie ! They Really didnt put enough Effort in the ending but still they could of done worse. I just Love these Kind of movies 💯 They're really good movies but dont leave some action out in the end. In my Opinion,The rotten tomatoes should be 97% I would recommend y'all watch this movie. I will totally Pre-Order this movie.

One of the Greatest Movies of the Year

This is a genuinely enjoyable movie. Yes, the Mars thing has been done before. Yes, the Matt-Damon-in-space thing has been done before. But very few movies like this have been good, and this one is.

The characters are witty, charming, and believable. The cast is very good from an acting perspective. It's funny in a way that isn't really rude or crude. It's intelligent. It's optimistic. It's really, really lovable.

It's not different in what it's trying to accomplish or portray, but it's unique in that it does it really well. It really succeeds in putting an emphasis on optimism and hard work and dedication and education. Like what Tomorrowland was trying to do, but in a way that was good and genuine and not weirdly elitist or haughty. Like what Interstellar was trying to do, but fun and funny. Like what Gravity was trying to do, but more edgy and unique. This movie was essentially everything it wanted to be, and it pulled it off spectacularly. I loved it. Easily one of the best movies of the year.
