Plot Summary

When he dons an ancient Norse mask, perennial looser Stanley Ipkiss moves at warp speed, knows people's every desire and can satisfy every whim, and dances like Fred Astaire, Barishnikov and Gumby combined. He's s-s-s-smokin'! Golden Globe-winner Jim Carrey ("Yes Man," "The Number 23") and Golden Globe-nominee Cameron Diaz ("There's Something About Mary," "Charlie's Angels") star in this story of a sweet, socially inept bank teller who discovers a magical mask that brings his innermost desires to screaming life, and transforms him into a superhero -- but one whom you may not want to call for help. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, Jim Carrey was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his performance in this blockbuster, which grossed more than $119 million domestically, and $344 million worldwide!

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Bright-eyed, crazily intense, irrepressibly silly, Mr. Carrey can be funny without fireworks. He deserves material clever enough to let him do just that. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: Carrey is the ultimate party dude, and like the masked man says, this party is smokin'. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Aug 4, 2007

Fresh: Adroitly directed, viscerally and visually dynamic and just plain fun. – Leonard Klady, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Not only is he adept at physical humor, the kind of knockabout stuff that recalls the classic silent clowns, but Carrey also has a bright and likable screen presence, a lost puppy quality that is surprisingly endearing. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Apr 12, 2013

S-S-S-S-S-S-S-mokin!

I once asked for an episode of the Animated series of The Mask for my birthday. I didn't know that there was a live-action movie of the same name! Then, I was swept into the action, humor, and romance of the film, which I watched on a daily/weekly basis for five straight years! Then, I finally got bored and stopped watching it until a few months ago when I uncovered this gem of a film again. Jim Carrey is at his absolute best, while Cameron Diaz is very sexy in her silver screen debut. One of my all-time favorite movies, and it will leave you S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-mokin!

Love it

This got be be a classic for thoughs who sees Jim Carry shows they are so good but! The Mask got to be one of my favorites cause he's just freakin funny in it:) That's all !!! Keep up the works Jim Carry!!

IF YOU CAN ONLY WATCH 1 OF JIM CARRY'S MOVIES

By Far the most creative work of comedy EVER! I love this movie, it's zany, funny, raunchy (in a family friendly way), and vivid characters. You'll laugh, cringe, and possibly cry by all the elements of the film. Not only is the humor a mix of unique jokes and "Looney Tunes" style effects, but the emotions and suspense feel real (despite being overly farfetched). IF YOU NEED MORE ENCOURAGMENT TO BUT THIS REMEMBER: "Rotten Tomatoes does not give a 77% to just ANY comedy that gets produced."
