Plot Summary

In this quirky dark comedy inspired by a real life story you will hardly believe is actually true, astonishing revelations about a top-secret wing of the U.S. military come to light when a reporter encounters an enigmatic Special Forces operator on a mind-boggling mission. Reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor of Angels & Demons, Miss Potter) is in search of his next big story when he encounters Lyn Cassady (Academy-Award®-winner George Clooney), a shadowy figure who claims to be part of an experimental U.S. military unit with unparalleled psychic powers that can read the enemy’s thoughts, pass through solid walls, and even kill a goat simply by staring at it. Intrigued by his new acquaintance’s far-fetched stories, Bob impulsively decides to accompany Lyn on his search to find the program's founder, Bill Django (Academy-Award®-nominee Jeff Bridges). The reporter is trapped in the middle of a grudge match when the pair runs into renegade psychic Larry Hooper (two-time Academy-Award®-winner Kevin Spacey)and his personal militia of super soldiers. In order to survive this wild adventure, Bob will have to outwit an enemy he never thought possible.

Rotten: All in all, Goats would have been groaningly familiar, even back in the 1960s. – Rafer Guzman, Newsday, Nov 7, 2011

Fresh: The narrative flips and flops ruin the comedic flow. – Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Heslov directs for the first time in a career that, I pray, will consist of one movie. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: This is grizzled, wild-eyed Clooney, not the suave sophisticate, and it's a nice change of pace. – Tom Long, Detroit News, Jun 24, 2010

My favorite movie

This movie was absolutly hilariouse!! The humer is very select and subtle so u hav to pay attention or you'll miss something. I highly suggest watching it. The reason people are giving 1 star and saying the movie was stupid need to think harder. The whole point of the movie was to make the characters seem as idiodic as possible. What the 1 star givers are doing is like complaining that the dudes who made jackass 1, 2 and 2.5 are idiods. Thats the whole point!

Loved it- but read the summary so you know what to expect.

I love this movie. It's one of my favorites. However, you really need to read the summary because the title alone really doesn't cut it. If you're looking for a stupid haha movie with no point at all, this isn't it. It is stupidly hillarious, but the stupidity has a point to it unlike most other funny movies. I don't really think it fits the stereo typical comedy catagory, but regardless it's good. Worth my money.

Its a Dark Comedy..(this means if you don't have a sense of humor, this isn't for you)

Dark comedies don't just spoon feed you the laughs it is something that one must have some intelligence and must have some life experience that can allow you to see the joke. Most people that have panned this just didn't get the joke and thats fine, it probably just flew over their heads, if you want a witty comedy that isn't the normal mainstream fodder then this is for you otherwise if you don't get into this I am sure you can find a sinbad movie on hear somewhere. This is a very interesting subject that funny enough the army did do research in and thats what makes this even funnier, its essentially a "true" story (or loosely based on one).
Again this isn't one you can take your brain out for but its not completely cerebral, a nice balance, very dark, and a great cast that pulls it off well!!
