Plot Summary

Vigilantes? Outlaws? Or just red-blooded patriots? Armed and tireless, the self-appointed watchdogs of the U.S./Mexico border are taking the illegal immigration issue into their own hands. Filmed over four years, this intimate and open-minded documentary sucks you into the conflicted lives of scrappy San Diego soccer moms and eccentric old-timers in mountaintop trailer homes, who are in a constant struggle to secure the sprawling border while maintaining their own sanity in an isolating and dangerous landscape. Regardless of your political beliefs you will find ‘The Minutemen‘ charged with real people in a real world with real concerns.

MUST SEE DOC

I had the pleasure of watching this film at the Chicago Film Festival and was blown away. The characters are raw and showed me a side of Americana that I was unaware of. If you are a fan of documentary film making or curious about the different view points of our current border war then this is a must see film. Well worth the money.

Disappointment

In research for the purpose of the minutemen, i viewed this movie, looking for some explanation, definition or purpose. 20 mins into the documentary I still had nothing but a reality show - at best - of what people who have nothing to do so they decide to live in the desert. There is a 5 minute scene of a man talking about the bullets in his gun. Mr. Wascinski needs to go back to film school and retake the course on story telling. That is if he wen to film school. Aside from the bigotry and self destructing actions of the people being followed here, there is still no exposure of who the minutemen are, what is their purpose, why should anyone join their neo-nazi believes and more importantly why should anyone care to watch this perfectly wasted piece of film.
