About the Movie

The corruption runs deeper than you'd ever imagine. A multi-billion dollar industry you've never heard of. This is the world Patent Trolls thrive in: A world created for them by our own U. S. Patent system. You can be sued for clicking on a hyperlink, using your own scanner, or sharing your Wi-Fi! It sounds insane, but the reality is even crazier. Patent Trolls look for obvious ideas, patent them, and then sue anyone they claim is infringing on their idea. People's lives and businesses are being destroyed.. and they have no way out. “The Patent Scam” exposes the underbelly of this system, and the people that commit this practice.

Customer Reviews

Great expose of this ethically fringe practice

While a little long winded at times the film is a fun journey through a mosaic of real-life stories of people whose lives have been impacted by patent trollss' abusive lawsuits. The film makes up for its technical shortcomings with engaging interviews and a direct style that's tough to fault. Meyer deserves credit for taking on the industry head first, and also for seeing this film project through to completion - no small feat in and of itself.

Great movie

This movie provides good examples of the mindboggling levels of corruption in the US legal system and political system. It describes an extortion practice from corrupt lawyers motivated by pure greed, which is killing innovation in the US and around the world and forcing its victims into silence. This is a problem that is getting bigger and bigger every year, yet many US politicians (who are corrupt lawyers themselves) actively prevent congress from ever solving the problem. I hope the movie has some impact nationally.

The Patent Scam

What a scathing review of the nastiness involved not only in business, but an apparent disregard by our own government. Sadly true...so what's next then? What can be done? What about the little guy?
