About the Movie
Ever since Hopper (Johnny Simmons) was a child, he has dreamed of becoming a major league pitcher. Relentlessly pushed by his abusive father (Academy Award Nominee Ethan Hawke), he’s on the verge of becoming one of the game’s most promising players when he unexpectedly breaks down on the mound. Now Hopper’s only hope lies with an unorthodox sports therapist (Academy Award Nominee Paul Giamatti) who urges him to let go of the past so he can find success on the field.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: "The Phenom" is a baseball movie with virtually no baseball, which would be fine if the thing it relied on instead - lots and lots of talking - exhibited zest and originality. It doesn't.
Fresh: An unusual and affecting baseball drama where nearly all the action is internal.
Fresh: It's Hawke who gives the film its dramatic urgency.
Fresh: The Phenom unfolds as a series of quiet, incisive conversations that showcase subtle, insightful performances.
DO NOT RENT
This is the most boring movie I've seen in a very long time. How this script got made is a great question. Horribly written, horribly directed, horrible filmography and bad editing. Hawke was the only actor that showed emotion. Just wait for the ending…you will be like, "well, I just wasted $7 and 90 minutes of my life.
Nothing about baseball
Extremely boring and dull movie.
This was the worst movie I've seen in years. Absolutely boring pretty much a pitcher crying about his dad in a room with a therapist that's the whole movie so angry I paid 7 dollars to watch it don't waste your money.
