Plot Summary

Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick return to their award-winning roles in the hilariously funny film of the record-breaking Broadway smash-hit. Scheming producer Max Bialystock (Lane) and his mousy accountant, Leo Bloom (Broderick), discover that under the right circumstances they could make more money by producing a Broadway flop than they can with a hit. But what will they do when their sure-to-offend musical becomes a surprise sensation? Co-starring sexy Uma Thurman and comedy genius Will Ferrell, The Producers is a fun-filled, side-splitting comedy.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Not so much a film as an awkwardly framed souvenir of the Broadway hit musical, The Producers needs a live audience like a candle needs oxygen. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Jan 3, 2006

Rotten: Brooks and Stroman have taken a classic and flattened it into just the sort of glib, tired-businessman's musical adaptation that Max Bialystock once built his sagging reputation on. – Jan Stuart, Newsday, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The small, silly details that made you laugh in spite of yourself are only garish and hammy on a screen the size of a mobile trailer. – Rex Reed, New York Observer, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: So how good is the movie of the musical of the movie? The answer is: It's pretty good. – Stephen Hunter, Washington Post, Jul 16, 2008

Excellent Movie! 5 Stars- please read before you rate!

I am a Producers freak! I love the show and movie with a burning passion. Regardless, When this movie was in trailers I was excited. Then when it came out, I was disappointed. THEN, as I watched it more, I came and grew to love the movie version, and saw it through different eyes. A movie-musical that is based off of a show on Broadway is 99% of the time not as good as the show. and I guarantee you this is not as good as the show (on broadway) if you saw the show. The reason for this is because on Broadway the actors talk with you, have an audience, and have 1 try--there are no "...action...Take 2: When You Got It, Flaunt It..." THE PRODUCERS, was incredible for that of MOVIE-musical NOT TO MENTION THE FACT that ALL BUT 2 OF THE STARRING ROLES IN THE MOVIE,, ORIGINATED THEIR ROLES ON BROADWAY. The 2 exceptions are Cady Huffman-who played Ulla spectacularly, who was replaced for the movie by Uma Thurman, who is sexy and a decent actress, but she STANK at singing and SHE SUCKED at the accents. The 2nd replacement was Brad Oscar who originated the role of Franz on broadway, who was replaced by Will Ferrel. At first I hated Will Ferrel but he grew on me, and I feel he was great.. (Side note- Broadway's Franz: Brad Oscar- He was in the movie as the taxi driver in We Can Do It, and The King of Broadway.) Overall, I have to say that YOU MUST GIVE THIS MOVIE A CHANCE, my life is this movie, the show, the soundtrack, MEL BROOKS, LANE, BRODERICK, STROHMAN, GARY BEACH, AND ROGER BART. and soooo if someone doesn't like the movie, DON'T GIVE IT A 1 STAR-BECAUSE THE QUALITY OF IT IS MUCH BETTER THAN THAT, AND ALSO THINK ABOUT THE ADAPTED SCRIPT NOT NECESSARILY THE ACTING IF YOU DIDNT LIKE THE ACTING BBUT THE STORY LINE AND HOW IT FLOWS.

OH MY GOD

its about fricken time!! i mean really! thank you so much itunes!!!

Highly reccomended

Ignore TJackson and see this movie. I've had the chance to see it on Broadway and on screen and it was hilarious both times. It's not any high brow humor, nor does it have a very twisty plot, but it's a Mel Brooks comedy and that's what makes Mel Brooks' work so great.
