About the Movie

Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, Natalie Portman and Danny Aiello star in Leon: The Professional, a go-for-broke thriller about a professional assassin whose work becomes dangerously personal. Calling himself a "cleaner", the mysterious Leon (Reno) is New York's top hitman. When his next-door neighbors are murdered, Leon becomes the unwilling guardian of the family's sole survivor - 12-year-old Mathilda (Natalie Portman), but Mathilda doesn't just want protection; she wants revenge. Training her in the deadly tricks of his trade, Leon helps her track the psychotic agent (Oldman) who murdered her family.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The Professional is much too sentimental to sound shockingly amoral in the least. Even in a finale of extravagant violence, it manages to be maudlin. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Jun 4, 2014

Fresh: Mathilda is like no New York City girl-child I've ever seen riding the subway. And I couldn't take my eyes off her. – Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 8, 2010

Fresh: Leave it to french writer-director Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita) to put a kinky twist on Orphan Annie and Daddy Warbucks. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Jun 4, 2014

Fresh: This is a Cuisinart of a movie, mixing familiar yet disparate ingredients, making something odd, possibly distasteful, undeniably arresting out of them. – Richard Schickel, TIME Magazine, Jun 4, 2014

the answer is yes

straight badass. enough said.

a MUST-SEE

Natalie portman's performance is remarkable. Gary Oldman's impersonation of the psychopath cop is perfect, and Jean Reno (aka Leon) stays one of my favorite french actor. I had seen this movie before, but I didn't regret watching it again. One of Luc Besson's best thriller. If you have seen "La femme Nikita," and enjoyed it, you will most certainly love this one. For the people who are fond of "happy endings", this might not be the right movie. About the movie itself, the director of photography did a great job: the texture and the color of the film is stunning and immediatly absorb the audience into the atmosphere of the movie. hope you enjoy it!

LEON...

..go watch the original, the relationship between Leon and Matilda is explored more. Just a side note, the character and the strongest weapon in the game, Resident Evil 4, go by the same name.
