About the Movie
Winner of the Academy Award® for Best Actress, Dame Helen Mirren gives a spellbinding performance in The Queen, the provocative story behind one of the most public tragedies of our time - the sudden death of Princess Diana. In the wake of Diana's death, the very private and tradition-bound Queen Elizabeth II (Mirren) finds herself in conflict with the new Prime Minister, the slickly modern and image-conscious Tony Blair. The Queen, also starring Academy Award® nominee James Cromwell (Best Supporting Actor, Babe, 1995), takes you inside the private chambers of the Royal Family and the British government for a captivating look at a vulnerable human being in her darkest hour, as a nation grieving for its People's Princess waits to see what its leaders will do. Suspenseful, heartfelt and riveting, it's a fascinating story you won't soon forget.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: An absolute delight, combining the cheap thrills of a biopic with the gentler, but more lasting, pleasures of a brilliant character study.
Fresh: We see not only the inner corridors of power, but also sense the inner workings of the royal mind. Stephen Frears' deft direction also gives the film insight and even humor.
Fresh: Frears has given us a front-row seat for a backstage drama; the result is provocatively realistic.
Fresh: This imperial mix of wit, humor and compassion manages to humanize at once the prickly worlds of royalty, politics and popular culture.
I adored this film. Helen Mirren was perfectly cast. Long live the Queen!!!
Helen Mirren absolutely deserved that Oscar as she was the embodiment of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd.
Mirren is Miraculous
Helen Mirren is much like Daniel Day-Lewis in that she completely inhabits her character. She becomes the Queen in this movie and assuming most of it is based on speculation you still get a perspective of what life was like for the royal family inside palace walls. I watch this every time it's on because of her performance.
