About the Movie

Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. The unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The movie is a gory free-for-all, a horror film dressed up as an action film, and it's as pure a shot of adrenaline as any Tarantino fan could wish for. – Bruce Diones, New Yorker, Apr 9, 2012

Fresh: As midnight-movie mash-ups go, it's pretty amazing. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Mar 29, 2012

Fresh: Because Welsh-born director Gareth Evans has an especially good understanding of how to choreograph and stage the fight scenes, this comes across as a viscerally enjoyable experience. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Apr 7, 2012

I'm so glad I got the chance to see this movie while it was still playing at my local theater because it's truly one of the best action films I've seen in a very long time. The fighting sequences are expertly choreographed and insanely realistic. You can actually feel the pain of the people getting their bones snapped like twigs. And the pacing and editing of the movie is simply phenomenal. Think of it as Tarantino on crack, or better yet, a game of Donkey Kong. An elite swat team has to fight their way through an apartment complex-turned-safe house full of Indonesia's most dangerous killers and gangsters in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. From start to finish, I was on the edge of my seat, awestruck by the brutality and bloodshed that emanated from every scene. In the end, you're not gonna walk away talking about how memorable the characters were or how well-developed the plot was. No, you're gonna walk away feeling entirely breathless, almost as if you just got smacked upside the head with a shot of pure adrenaline. This is the kind of movie that doesn't pull any punches. It goes right for the gore and only gets more deliriously wild and intense from there. If you're a huge fan of action flicks like me, I urge you to watch "The Raid: Redemption". Yes, it's a foreign film with English subtitles, but believe me, it's well worth seeing. It's a slick, deranged, no-holds-barred masterpiece that'll knock your socks off and leave you speechless.

Fantastic Fighting choreography!!

Haven't seen a martial art movie this great since Tony Jaa in Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior.

Are you watching this Jason Statham? Are you paying attention Hollywood? This is how it's done.

Save yourself regret

Here's the thing, if you don't watch this movie you will regret it. But if you do watch this movie, you will at least not regret it.

The story is simple but interesting. You get a basic set up and introduction to the "conflict" of the film. Then in-between action scenes more of the story and plot is delivered to you, which barely gives you breathing room for the action once it starts. Now, this isn't one of those action movies where the writers came up with a cheesy plot just so that they could showcase a lot of violence… like I said the story is simple BUT still interesting.

The characters are generally interesting. The acting is good. And most importantly, the action will not let you down. If anything, the action will raise the bar for martial arts films.

I've watched this movie many times already. With each viewing, the action gets better and better because I catch more of what is going on. I would recommend at least two viewings in order to fully enjoy the entertainment this movie has.

If you love action packed movies with some brutal, stylized violence… save yourself the regret and just give it a shot.
