About the Movie
Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, North Carolina is in many ways the REAL Mayberry. Meet the people who live there and relive some magic moments from "The Andy Griffith Show" in an exploration of how small town America can survive and keep its heart and soul.
Brilliance in Motion!
The Real Mayberry is a brilliant portrayal of how a small town can have a HUGE personality! Not only is The Real Mayberry a great film for the whole family, it also provides education on the hardships that a small town, like Mayberry, endures after a recession. Throughout the film, you feel connected with each individual because they are expressing their honest opinion in a humorous and yet heart wrenching manner!
Small towns are beautiful!
The Real Mayberry is a fascinating look into the evolution of our country. Unfortunately, the recent history has been partly a sad one. This film digs beneath the headlines and show us that the real spirit of a town like Mt. Airy continues underneath the hardship. TRM then shows us the path that Mt. Airy is taking to rebound from its economic troubles. What a beautiful little hometown USA!
Why "Mayberry" Matters
This film does an excellent job of showing the continuing relevance of small towns in America, and why it's important to keep these towns alive. Through the stories of long time residents, and those who have more recently adopted Mt. Airy as their home, "The Real Mayberry" exposes the real heart and soul in this town. I was inspired by the courage, hard work, creativity and sacrifices of the local business owners, those who have owned businesses for their whole adult lives, and those who have more recently created their enterprises. This diverse group is revitalizing the town of Mt. Airy, and the film provides a template for how other towns decimated by the loss of manufacturing jobs can reinvent themselves. "The Real Mayberry" shows the physical beauty of the town's mountain setting, and I found myself longing to live in a place with so much unspoiled natural beauty.
