Plot Summary

Newly restored, Albert Lamorisse’s exquisite "The Red Balloon" remains one of the most beloved children’s films of all time. In this deceptively simple, nearly wordless tale, a young boy discovers a stray balloon, which seems to have a mind of its own, on the streets of Paris. The two become inseparable, yet the world’s harsh realities finally interfere. With its glorious palette and allegorical purity, the Academy Award–winning The Red Balloon has enchanted movie lovers, young and old, for generations.

Fresh: As enjoyable for adults who wistfully view scenes of post-war France in all its black and white chicness, as it is for kids. – Kate Fuscoe, Time Out, Jun 24, 2010

Perfection!!!!!

This movie is an absolute joy to watch. No matter what age you are or what language you speak, this movie will transport you to a simpler time. The musical score is beautiful and the visuals are stunning. I have purchased this movie for many of my friends and family. Don't let the age fool you, it's as timely today as it was in the 50's. Buy it you won't be sorry.

Classic Movie for all ages.

Simple story of a boy and his balloon. Fun, sweet, sad, triumphant. This is one of the first memories of film I can remember, and my 4 year old loves it. This movie captures the imagination of all ages.

Oh yeah this brings back memories.....

Oy vey, I remember seeing this several times in grade school, and no matter how many times I saw this it is was boring. This was not a good start in developing my opinion of French movies!
