Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A fable, beautifully drawn in calm, soothing colors, it doesn't even have dialogue, let alone a throbbing soundtrack. Those sounds you hear are the sounds of silence, and eventually they become hypnotic.
Fresh: Watching "The Red Turtle" ... is like falling into an 80-minute wormhole of spare artistry.
Fresh: Few films have used color and light with such acuity - from the near monochrome of moonlight on a desolate beach to the infinite, illuminated shades of green in a bamboo forest.
Fresh: Although the story is slight, the film leaves viewers with a lasting, haunting impression.
Does not live up to tradition.
I was let down by this movie. This is below standard for Studio GhiBli brand. I asumed it would be good just becasue it had the name. Not impressed.
very nice movie that is charming to watch. The art is beatiful and it definitly exeeded my expectations. It had an amazing story and it had a very deep meaning. I definitly recommend watching this film.
Took a chance...
Rented this to watch with my grandson who loves anything with a turtle in it. Got a little worried about twenty minutes in it might be too adult for him. At the end he was able to come up with his own interpretation and seemed happy. I liked the art and animation. Would have given five stars but the story line was a little .... I don't know how to describe it. My grandson was happy and that's all that matters.
