Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: DiCaprio may get put through bloody hell, but on a big screen "The Revenant" is heaven, with Lubezki's camera painting the American West as a rapturous primeval proving ground. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Jan 7, 2016

Fresh: The enormously talented Alejandro G. Inarritu ("Amores Perros," "21 Grams," "Birdman") strikes again with this 19th century American fable, one of the most brutally beautiful movies I've ever seen. – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Jan 8, 2016

Fresh: Inarritu's real achievement is how he captures the monumental force of the untamed land. – J. R. Jones, Chicago Reader, Jan 7, 2016

Rotten: It is overwhelming but unmoving, a rush of brute force that leaves the nagging afterthought, "Is that all there is?" – Nick Pinkerton, Sight and Sound, Jan 15, 2016

Customer Reviews

Meh. That was 2 and a half hours of my life wasted. I honestly do not understand all the good reviews. The story is boring, could have been done in a hour. Lots of blood, gore and grunting. I just wanted it to be over.

The revenant

Overly long, overly gory, depressing, boring but shocking. I regret wasting two hours on this rubbish. The ending also sucked big time. Why did Leo get an Oscar????

Unbelievably stupid movie

I am sorry I wasted the money and time watching this movie. It was written by someone who does not understand survivalist skills, combat, or basic common sense. Since when does a Commanding Officer go out looking for a killer all by himself? Why does someone in a gunfight hold a rifle inches away from someone’s face, where they can grab the barrel? How does a horse carcass not freeze in subzero weather overnight? This movie is just dumb, from start to finish. I’ve called out just a few items. If you have any bit of common sense, you’ll kick yourself for buying this movie, much less for wasting 3 hours of you life watching it. Please do yourself a favor and pass on by.
