Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: These men remain virtually flawless heroes, almost too good, decent and brave to be true, and it's a measure of how successful the movie is that one is inclined to believe it.
Fresh: Moviegoers seeking a grand yet edifying entertainment, right-stuffed with what Kaufman calls "seriousness of subject matter and a wild humor that comes out of left field," now know where to look...
Fresh: The Right Stuff is a humdinger. Full of beauty, intelligence and excitement, this big-scale look at the development of the US space program and its pioneering aviators provides a fresh, entertaining look back at the recent past.
Fresh: That the writer-director, Philip Kaufman, is able to get so much into a little more than three hours is impressive. That he also has organized this material into one of the best recent American movies is astonishing.
One of the Ten Best Films of all time!
However I will not rent it. I will only buy it. This film and the story are fairly accurate in their portrayal of the Mercury program. The “characters” that are associated with this story went on to accomplish amazing things helping lead the US into Space. Check out Wikipedia, the stories are amazing!!! My only wish was that Yeager got a shot at space flight. I always feel like he got the short end of the stick. Overall, this is one of my favorite films and one that I watch several times each year. iTunes, please let us buy this film, and the soundtrack for that matter!
This IS a great film!!!
itunes, please set this film for purchase!!!! Anyone who has not seen this movie, it is a great epic about one of the most pivital points in the history of mankind. It conveys the culture of the time and the infancy of the technology but most important it tells the story of the men( and to a limited degree, their wives) that took on the challenge of our first small steps into space. It runs a little long, but if you can forgive a few slow moments for the sake of good story telling, you will really enjoy this film.
I'll Buy It
iTunes needs to sell this movie...I never rent.
