Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The perfect high old time for audiences in the mood to be tossed into the spin cycle for a pulse-pounding thrill ride. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Nov 24, 2006

Rotten: O'Neill proves to be a squeamish screenwriter. He doesn't allow his villain to do anything truly unnerving until the story's nearly done. – Rita Kempley, Washington Post, Mar 7, 2001

Fresh: If watched from a mildly amused, forgiving distance, the movie has its enjoyable moments -- good and campy. – Desson Thomson, Washington Post, Mar 7, 2001

Rotten: Constructed from so many ideas, characters and situations recycled from other movies that all the way down the river I kept thinking: Been there. Done that. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

No offense guys, but Meryl Streep does a spectacular performance in this picture. She's vulnerable regarding her marriage, she's tough at the same time, she's trying to show her young son what she experienced as a young child growing up where she did. Then naturally the all to mean (and nice looking Mr. Bacon) jumps into the picture, (bad guy) and you then get to see more sides to Streep's character. I've loved this picture since it came out and I'm so glad that I can now watch it on my iPhone, iTouch or at home on my Apple TV, or just on my computer. I use a HDTV for my monitor and my new Desktop has a blu-ray built in that plays any type of disc. But the great thing about iTunes, no disc required. If you love adventure, and Meryl Streep's tremendous acting skills, you'll LOVE this movie.
