Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: A pretty, somewhat sleepy and finally strange once-upon-a-time tale... – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jan 9, 2014

Fresh: The adventures of a 10-year-old Laotian boy are subject to radically different interpretations in The Rocket, Australian documentarian Kim Mordaunt's impressive narrative debut. – Ronnie Scheib, Variety, Jan 6, 2014

Fresh: Mordaunt doesn't always succeed at balancing the sentimental, the political and the ethnographic, but at its strongest the story is a seamless melding of history's dark undertow and a child's indefatigable optimism. – Sheri Linden, Los Angeles Times, Jan 16, 2014

Fresh: Formulaic but likeable. – John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter, Jan 6, 2014

A very impressive movie and one of the best who I saw at the 62. Berlinale, Still hope that this movie will found back to the german cinemas and can’t await to see it again.

great movie!!

The cinematography is quite impressive and the actors play their roles very well, especially the husband and his mother. A must see for a feel-good movie!

Bring Laos to the big screen

A dramatic and fun story framed in Laos that accurately shows the struggles of the people that live there.
