Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) and his wife, Etheline (Anjelica Huston), had three children -- Chas, Margot, and Richie -- and then they separated. Chas (Ben Stiller) started buying real estate in his early teens and seemed to have an almost preternatural understanding of international finance. Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow) was a playwright and received a Braverman Grant of $50,000 in the ninth grade. Richie (Luke Wilson) was a junior champion tennis player and won the U.S. Nationals three years in a row. Virtually all memory of the brilliance of the young Tenenbaums was subsequently erased by two decades of betrayal, failure, and disaster. Touchstone Home Entertainment is proud to present Wes Anderson's hilarious, touching, and brilliantly stylized study of melancholy and redemption.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: As with Anderson's Rushmore, there's a certain annoying preciousness to this film -- it's not so consistently wise or amusing as he thinks it is -- but it has its moments.
Fresh: As richly conceived as the novel it pretends to be...
Fresh: Tenenbaums doesn't quite jell, but it's a beautiful near miss.
Rotten: Unfortunately, having created this original and interestingly stylised universe, Anderson frustratingly fails to put it to any better use than to tell his story in the safest, most obviously calculating manner possible.
The Royal Tenebaums
Upon first watching this movie at a young age, I never understood it until now, and is now my favorite movie aside from Wes Anderson's THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU. His ability to remain dark with a light mood with Alec Baldwin as the narrator allows the storyline to remain dark, although obviosly funny if one is not oblivious to the world around them, and true commedy. By this movie. Enjoy it: there's no reason not to.
I swear that this movie is one of the best movies of our time. The blend and originality of characters and the creativity of the setting is absolutely amazing. There are great actors and actresses in this movie and they fill the parts perfectly. To anyone who is thinking about buying this movie you should just go ahead and buy it, its worth it!
Shows Wes Anderson's Graetness
Wes Anderson could be one of the best directors of modern day film and this movie shows it. Its witty jokes and off beat style reflect Life Aquatic and Rusmore, two other Wes Anderson classics. You can see the effort put into each movie and how well it is enacted. Bill Murray is hilarious as always but the actors really bring out this particular movie. Another masterpiece.
