About the Movie
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Ben Richards, a cop in the totalitarian America of 2019, framed for massacring rioting civilians during a famine. After escaping from jail, Richards tries to prove his innocence, but his efforts are thwarted at every turn by a regime in need of a scapegoat. Richards is captured along with an innocent civilian, Amber Mendez (Maria Conchita Alonso), and they are forced to participate in a violent game show called "The Running Man," hosted by the unctuous Damon Killian (Richard Dawson). The object of the game for Richards and Mendez: obtain freedom by staying alive against a gauntlet of skillful assassins like "Subzero" (Prof. Toru Tanaka) and "Captain Freedom" (Jesse Ventura), each armed with unique weapons like razor-sharp hockey sticks and chainsaws. With the help of some fellow "contestants," Richards is able to tap into government computers and prove his innocence. The Running Man was very loosely based on a short story by Stephen King, who wrote it under the name Richard Bachman.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It's not quite Network, but then it also doesn't take itself too seriously.
Rotten: Schwarzenegger sadistically dispatches the baddies, enunciating typical wisecrack remarks (many repeated from his previous films), but it's all too easy.
Fresh: The message is irrelevant. It's still the Olympian myth, albeit in a Lycra leotard, that counts with the Arn Man.
Fresh: A brainless, breathless thrill.
This is one of Arnold's Best: Why's It Not Available to Buy?
Okay so the plot is a bit cheesy, and the puns are overused and bring ridiculousness to a whole new level. But not only does this film represent the 80s to its fullest potential, it is also quite prophetic. This film came out in 1987, and it told the story of a futuristic American society (the year 2019 to be exact) that is in a recession where unemployment and crime is at its highest peak in history. To quench Americans thirst for entertainment and violence comes reality TV shows pitting the worst criminals versus blood-hungry killers - the most popular of which is The Running Man. Here we are near the year 2009, and we are on the verge of such a future. In fact, recent copycats such as The Condemned and Death Race didn't take place in the future at all, but TODAY! Which is why I still consider The Running Man the most realistic sci-fi futuristic film in cinema. Just you wait. Only ten more years until Death TV hits the airwaves.
ITUNES LET US BUY THIS MOVIE!
Undoubtedly one of Arnold's best. It has all of what you expect in a 'classic/campy' arnold flick. Cheesy dialogue and one-liners ("here, sub zero, now PLAIN ZEROOOOO!", or "hey chrismas TREE!!!") ... great action (just pick any of the insane combat scenes) ... and demented casting (see yaphett koto as a fellow convict! jim brown as a fire spewing stalker! jesse ventura as an over the hill stalker! richard dawson as himself - aka old perverted scum game show host!) You can't beat this. If I had to pick all of the best Arnold (cheesy, not semi-serious) classics, this would be up there with the timeless Commando, Raw Deal ... along with better movies like Terminator (the orginal), Conan (the original), Predator and Total Recall. Itunes make this for sale asap!
A great movie!!
