Fresh: While the individual incidents are familiar, they are played with gusto by Lancaster and Davis.
Fresh: Lancaster and Davis work particularly well together, ditto Savalas and Winters. There are talky periods of slow pace, but they are terminated before undue damage has been done.
Fresh: Some movies are masterpieces, and most movies are not, and sometimes you get a movie that can best be described as 'interesting.' By that I mean it falls short of excellence but nevertheless has something that makes it worth seeing.
A Great Western!
Wow! One cannot begin to say how much fun and how truly great this film and cast is. Don't let this one slip by. Rent it and you will agree, this is a winner! Burt Lancaster and Ossie Davis, Shelley Winters and Telly Savales are wonderful! Pollack did a great job of directing this one.
One of Lancaster's best
Given the time it was made… this is a very interesting film that explores, rather bluntly, issues of race.
It is funny, odd and full of interesting characters.
Lancaster's comic charm shines thru and makes clear his versatility.
I've seen it a dozen times and enjoyed it every time.
