Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A movie that should've been made shortly after its source material -- Susan Cooper's Newbery winner -- debuted in 1973. As is, it feels entirely too generic to work today. – Gregory Kirschling, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: The movie ultimately emerges as a lackluster tale of teenage empowerment and doesn't fully conjure the requisite sense of magical escape necessary to truly captivate and immerse us in the tale. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Oct 6, 2007

Rotten: Cooper presented this rather basic good/evil mythos in more low-key, atmospheric form than the film allows, leaving thesps (particularly McShane) having to poker-face their way through lines like, 'The future of the human race rests on you!' – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Ludwig, a relative unknown with some TV and film experience, is awfully cute, but lacks the needed gravitas and charm to turn Will into more than a caricature. – Ruthe Stein, San Francisco Chronicle, Oct 9, 2007

I couldn't find a worse movie if I was the seeker

I spent the last hour of the movie waiting for it to end. The plot was decent, and that is the nicest thing I can say about this movie. The movie goes straight in to the cliche light versus dark with no background. The "bad guy" is about as scary as my dad... I only gave it a star because there isn't a option for no stars at all. I rented it as a fan of the genre, but I regretted the decision about ten minutes into the film. Trust me on this: don't waste your money, and more importantly, your time.

I'm easy to please...this made me angry.

I love movies, especially fantasy flicks. I love them all. However, this was extremely disappointing. I highly recommend you to not waste your time with this. Whoever initially OK'ed this film to be made should be out of the film business. I never write reviews...but i'll make an exception for this load of suckage.

Painfully Bad

If you are thinking about renting this movie, please take a moment... count to ten... and reconsider. The Seeker is, by far, one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Cliche doesn't even begin to cover it. The acting is terrible, the characters are ridiculous, the whole premise is... well... if you really want to see it convince a friend of yours to rent it and watch it with them. Just don't spend any money on it yourself.
