Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It's a cozy movie with a decidedly un-cozy message - about the perils of resuscitating our pasts, and the even bigger risk of leaving them be.
Rotten: Watching The Sense of an Ending, I was struck by the realization that this should have been a good movie.
Fresh: Broadbent, so often a supporting player, is a treat in the lead role, soft and mournful, but with a youthful gleam in his eye.
Fresh: Payne's screenplay doesn't always live up to Broadbent's talents. But the actor never disappoints, and "The Sense of an Ending" is so much better as a result.
great actors... but bit of a sleeper
eh. rent it...
i personally bought it for appreciation garnered for these actors, but this movie is missing major elements
I enjoyed this drama. I wished that more blanks had been filled in but I was able to fill in the blanks for myself after thinking about it all. While one man gave up on the love of his life, the other man did the unthinkable and killed himself over it. It's just a bit unbelievable that the protagonist never tried to find out the truth when all of the bad stuff went down. A great mysterious saga.
