Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: "The Shape of Water" is director Guillermo del Toro's finest film, a lovely, empathetic tribute to Old Hollywood, monster movies, outsiders and love that could only come from the mind of the visionary filmmaker.
Fresh: This is a film made by a boy who loves monsters, who has grown up to understand what they might represent to an adult woman, other outsiders (a gay man, a communist sleeper, a black woman) and an unforgiving society.
Fresh: The Shape of Water is a wild ride that provides many unexpected, eye-raising moments.
Fresh: Refreshingly, the film doesn't shy away from its characters' desires... The Shape of Water spells out in letters taller than the Empire State Building exactly what Fay Wray and King Kong wanted to do all along.
The Shape of Water
Beautiful. This movie is beautiful. It's so much more than a movie about a woman having sex with a fishman, SO MUCH MORE. It's about accpetance, longing, love, fulfillment, and equality on all levels. Guillermo del Toro has written and directed one of the best movies of 2017, crafting a movie that combines horror, fantasy, drama, romance, comedy, thriller, and even musical and that somehow mix together beautifully like PB and J. Sally Hawkins will melt your heart with her performance as a mute cleaning lady. Octavia Spencer is hilarious and amazing as a troubled cleaing lady. Richard Jenkins deserves an award for his take on a sad artist. Doug Jones is amazong as the amphibian man, campturing the graceful movements of a creature in pain and in love. Seriosuly, he's the practical effects equivalent of Andy Serkis. Michael Shannon is just as good. The cinematographery was masterfully done, that compliments the production design. Alexandre Desplat makes a score that'll make any person giddy as it is beautiful...beautiful. Overall, this movie is practicaly flawless, with my only complaint being that it might seem a bit cheesy and predictable by the end, but that can be forgiven--easy. I'll watch it, then watch it again, because this movie will become an instant classic. i can feel it shaping now, not like a sculpture, but like water.
The Shape of Water
Del Toro made such a beautiful movie. Although there wasn’t really any character development, but I cared about Sally Haskins character and that sea monster. This is about fulfilling your purpose in life all the characters feel they haven’t fulfilled their purpose in life, so they try to succeed and delivers so much for than that like love. Amazing movie, I recommend seeing it in theaters!
Most Sophisticated and amazing movie I’ve seen in a long time
