Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: None of the story's squishiness come as a real surprise, though the thinness of the material and Mr. Green's apparent willingness to settle for so little do. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Dec 8, 2011

Rotten: [A] terribly unfunny and overwhelmingly raunchy film that stars the normally likable, or at least comically forgivable, Jonah Hill. He is neither here. – Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times, Dec 9, 2011

Rotten: Jonah Hill bites off more than he can chew in this '80s up-all-night comedy. – John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter, Dec 9, 2011

Rotten: The Sitter seems to have a good heart, so why all the glib racism? – Rafer Guzman, Newsday, Dec 9, 2011

Jonah Hill is Now a Hack

Or at least thats what The Sitter makes him out to be. This is a perfect example of how bad commercialization really is to actors/actresses. I understand that Jonah Hill wanted to be a big leading-role star, but he could have made a better choice than this movie. In fact, if Jonah Hill from 2007 saw this Jonah Hill, he would have punched him in the face. Regardless this is not the worst film I've ever seen. Some jokes made me laugh, although i doubt that i could remember what they are. But what this film turns out to be is highly cynical, ugly, annoying and overall confusing. We don't have any real compassion for Hill's character, or the kids that he is caring for. This film also tries to convey some really phony sweetness, including an incredibly hypocritical moral on homosexual pride. What's the rating of this film again? R? Don't push any morals on the audience then! Like any parent in their right mind would let their child see a movie about drug smuggling kids, and to find any redeeming value to it whatsoever. This film only lasts about 81 minutes, relatively short for an R-Rated comedy, but those minutes feel like an eternity. David Gordon Green though, we can all agree is a hack. Your Highness? Now THIS? Looks like Mr. Green needs to go back to film school for a refresher course, or maybe just take all four years all over again. The Sitter left a bad taste in my mouth and I hope the new and slimmer Jonah Hill makes some better choices. Perhaps 21 Jump Street……

This might not be the best movie ever made, but it's not suppose to be. It is suppose to make you laugh and laugh you do.

Save your money

It's brutally bad. Was hoping for something like my favorite movie, Superbad. Was extremely disappointed. I may have laughed once.
