Academy Award®-nominee Robert Downey Jr. and Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx star in an extraordinary and inspiring true story of how a chance meeting can change a life. The Soloist tells the poignant and ultimately soaring tale of a Los Angeles newspaper reporter who discovers a brilliant and distracted street musician, with unsinkable passion, and the unique friendship and bond that transforms both their lives. The remarkable performances make for an unforgettable experience in what is hailed as "a courageous and uncompromising film" (Gene Shalit, Today).

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: There's no crescendo in Joe Wright's drama.
Fresh: Intelligent and uncompromising, with knock-out performances from Downey Jr. and Foxx.
Rotten: Ultimately, the reason that The Soloist fails is because the writer and the director have been bamboozled by the seriousness of the subject matter.
Rotten: A handsomely made but tonally uncertain film; it's unsure whether to be an old-fashioned inspirational heartwarmer, or a paranoid prose-poem about ruined lives on the city's dangerous margins.
Jamie Foxx should win an Oscar for his performance in this movie. Robert Downey Jr. was good, but Jamie Foxx just outshone everyone, similar to Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Even if the story does'nt sound so great to you, you should at least rent it to be able to say you witnessed one of the best acting performances ever.
Not only does the movie have the highest echelon in acting with Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr. but the story is one that all of us should be aware; to think this is a true portrayal of one talented person's struggles, challenges, etc on the Streets of LA & being a former student of Juilliard is absolutely unbelievable until you follow the storyline of the movie and then you have a better understanding of the serious plight of the homelessness. 90K homeless in LA!! how many other Mr. Ayers are living along the streets all across this Country night to night? Most will never develop a friendship such as between Stephen Lopez and Mr. Ayers. This is a beautiful movie, touching but yet serious story, that certainly Mr. Foxx should be highly considered for an Oscar.
this movie is truly amazing but LET ME BUY IT!!!!
