Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The Strangers has a couple of scares, but it's not anywhere near as frightening as advertised. The creepy folks of the title are more fumbling than fiendish. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Dec 17, 2008

Rotten: Let's give writer-director Bryan Bertino credit. He knows how to frame a shot to make characters seem vulnerable. Now for his next trick, he just needs to turn his talents toward something that isn't repulsive. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 24, 2008

Fresh: For most of its length, this is a grippingly unpleasant picture of barbaric, gratuitous evil, stealthier and scarier than Funny Games, to which it bears a slight resemblance. – Anthony Quinn, Independent, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: The cumulative effect of unexpected knocks at the door, creaking floors, shadows, noises and strange happenings is a heart-pounding experience – Louise Keller, Urban Cinefile, Jun 24, 2010

Best horror movie of the year

This movie is seriously the best horror movie of the year. And for the first time in a LONG time, it seems like many people actually agree with me. It's a tense, psychologically terrifying and relentless movie and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Truly, truly scary. With all of the PG-13 horror remakes out there now, it's a breath of fresh air to see a movie that's both (somewhat) original and actually manages to scare the crap out of the audience without using cheap jump scares and sound effects.

So, I read this one review....

And you gave this movie a 2 star because you didnt understand why the strangers attacked!?!?!??! Are you really that stupid? They attacked them because they WANTED TO. there was no grudge, no hate, they just attacked because of pleasure. there are some sick people out there that do this as a hobby. so please, dont ask stupid questions like that, and rate an amazing movie poorly just because your i.q. level cant handle it.

WOW

well to me this was the best movie ever i cant wait to buy it.
