About the Movie

The new film from Amat Escalante (Cannes Film Festival best director winner for “Heli”) follows young mother Alejandra whose life is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious woman, Veronica. She introduces her to an isolated cabin in the woods where an otherworldly creature dwells, a source of great pleasure but also great danger. THE UNTAMED “does that very rare thing in cinema in that it blends mystery, horror and pseudo-reality with a kind of dark subconscious arousal” (The Film Stage).

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: There is a fine line between horror and humor, and if you adjust your angle of vision accordingly, you can see the architecture of farce beneath the ornamentation of shock and suffering. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Jul 20, 2017

Fresh: ...a fantastical premise collides with Escalante's solemn realism, making for a quiet, unforgettable mash-up, inspired by director Andrzej Zulawski's Possession. – April Wolfe, Village Voice, Dec 1, 2017

Fresh: A carefully controlled tone, which never jumps into full-blown luridness despite ample opportunity to do so, helps us believe in the severity of the situation and the struggles of the characters. – Andrew Lapin, NPR, Jul 20, 2017

Fresh: [Amat Escalante's] film may lack the subtlety of Val Lewton's famously allusive RKO chillers, but there's the same sense that the shadowy rooms braved by the characters are no less than the human psyche itself. – J. R. Jones, Chicago Reader, Sep 7, 2017

Uh huh....

I will bet $$$ these RT reviews are complete BS. Don't be fooled. You read it here first... the following reviews, if any will bear the truth.

Utterly meaningless drek.

Had it been made in Hollywood it would have been rightfully panned.
