About the Movie

There's nothing like a first love to bring family tensions to a boil in this riveting dark comedy! In a startling performance, Adam Scott (Step Brothers) stars as Caleb Sinclaire whose emotions go haywire when his brother, Peter (Alex Frost, Drillbit Taylor), brings home new girlfriend Emma (Brittany Snow, Prom Night). As the dysfunctional family is propelled into chaos, Caleb and Emma confront their mutual distrust and attempt to resist a growing sexual attraction.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The characters spend far too much time working through their problems with drama-deadening directness. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Feb 16, 2010

Fresh: The Vicious Kind upends the heavily tread dysfunctional family drama in ways that are unique, surprising and memorable. – Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Indie drama reveals talent in front of and behind the camera. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: It's the sort of Sundance-approved movie that takes place in a stereotypically bleak rural locale, while an acoustic guitar twangs mournfully over the soundtrack. – Nick Schager, Time Out, Jun 24, 2010

Everything I look for in a film.

Truly one of my favorite films. Wish it had a wide release but hopefully through word of mouth will get out there more. A very dark and yet funny look at relationships and the flawed nature of us all, with Adam Scott as the train wreck anti-hero heading the cast (who you can't stop watching). The directing, acting and music all comes together into a perfect little film. Lee Toland Krieger has a bright future ahead of him for sure. Check it out.

amazingly done and unique...

best thing I have seen in a longtime....every aspect; the story, the acting and production...bravo, make more movies but keep the aesthetic as high.

a good drama

The trailer does give away most of the movie. I enjoyed watching this movie. On a depper level its about the psychology of people and the way they respond to circumstanses in life. Its about love, family love and relationship love. The characters are very real. There is some dry comedy in there. Its a uniquely intersting story that kept me intersted the whole way.
I recomend watching this film. I rented it, I dont know if I would recomend buying it, because I dont know if I would watch it more than once, even though I liked it.
