About the Movie

Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade take male bonding to hilarious new heights in this outrageous, no-holds-barred comedy that gets funnier every time you watch! There's trouble brewing in peaceful Glenview, Ohio. That's why four civic-minded citizens, armed with flashlights, walkie-talkies and spiffy new jackets, have teamed up to safeguard their community. But the guys find more than they bargained for when they uncover an alien plot to destroy Earth, and now these bumbling heroes are Glenview's only chance to save the neighbourhood — and the world — from annihilation!

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: What should have been at least Ghostbusters lite ends up sliming audiences with sloppy seconds. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Jul 27, 2012

Rotten: The "action" scenes come across as brief, noisy periods of rest from the lame comedy, which counts for something, if not quite what the filmmakers intended. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jul 26, 2012

Rotten: "The Watch" takes the same ethos of male bonding, obsession with sex and sardonic violence that has proved so profitable in recent years on yet another summer spin. – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post, Jul 26, 2012

Rotten: Really, wait for it on cable. At least then you'll be able to change the channel. – Tom Long, Detroit News, Jul 26, 2012

Customer Reviews

The critics can hate on "The Watch" all they want, but personally, I thought it was fun film. Sure, the story is unoriginal, the special effects are weak, and the gross-out gags are extremely vulgar, but with a cast as hilarious as Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade, you simply can't go wrong. Vaughn and Hill especially stole the show for me with their crude one-liners, and even Ayoade managed to surprise me with some of his awkwardly witty dialogue. Of course, Stiller plays the serious actor in the bunch like he always does, but he has his moments of hilarity. Now, on to the bad news. Like most critics have already pointed out, the plot is all over the place. It keeps going in all sorts of confusing directions until it finally reaches a disappointingly bland climax. And unless you enjoy constant jokes about male anatomy, the majority of the humor won't appeal to you in the slightest. Nonetheless, I enjoyed "The Watch" for what it was. It may be disgusting, juvenile, and narratively flawed, but it's also a fun sci-fi spoof with plenty of raunchy laughs to spare. If you love comedies that require very little brain activity, give this one a rent and see what you think.

Ignore the Rotten Tomatoes Critics!

This movie was hilarious!! The gags are purposefully stupid for the simple reason it's a feel good movie and designed to make the viewer feel silly.
I really wish iTunes would stop using Rotten Tomatoes critic system…their reviews don't do it justice and are basically not worthy of review!

Better than critics say

I personally found this movie absolutely hilarious and saw it 4 times in theaters. It's more of a men's movie than something I'd go see with my girlfriends. Vaughn and Stiller made this movie absolutely enjoyable but Hill and Ayoade made it better. It simply was hiliarious and is definitely worth owning. Don't waste money in theaters, just buy it. I thought it was awesome and can't wait to buy it here on iTunes. It's not for children though. Some parts are just not appropriate for children under 17 or 18. More of a movie for college guys and their buddies but still enjoyable. This movie had me laughing all the way to the end even though it was quite a bit cheesy.
