About the Movie

Out patrolling a California highway, police officer Edward Malus (Nicolas Cage) stops a station wagon to return a little girl's lost doll. Moments later, a runaway truck slams into the station wagon, igniting it into a fiery wreck with the mother and child trapped inside. Edward fails to save them before the car explodes...and then spends months of his life choking down pills to get the image of their faces out of his head. But Edward is about to get a second chance. A desperate letter from his former girlfriend, Willow (Kate Beahan), arrives at his home with no postmark. Willow came into his life and left just as unexpectedly years before. But now, her daughter Rowan has gone missing, and Edward is the only person she trusts to help locate her. She asks him to come to her home on a private island - Summersisle - a place with its own traditions where people observe a forgotten way of life.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The Wicker Man is comically inept as a horror movie, unable to even manage an effective false scare, or sustain suspense for more than a beat or two. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: LaBute's remake is an interesting idea that never transforms into a particularly satisfying movie. – Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times, Sep 20, 2007

Rotten: Far more ambitious and stylish than most of today's horror crop, Neil LaBute's remake of the 1973 U.K. cult classic The Wicker Man unfortunately still falls far short of its mark. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: This wasn't a horror film the first time around, and LaBute makes sorry feints at effective creepiness. – Michael Atkinson, Village Voice, Sep 23, 2006

Comedy Gold

Funniest movie I have ever seen in my life!

Worst movie of 2006?

It's been almost two years since this fiasco was unleashed upon the world, and if my memory serves me, it was the worst movie of 2006. Seriously, what was Nic Cage thinking when he agreed to star in this? The whole movie is one ridiculous mess, and the payoff just isn't worth it. The movie is not scary or thrilling in any way, although it is worth a few laughs (Nic Cage gets pretty hysterical towards the climax). So if you really can't find anything better to watch, then go right ahead and rent it. But I really think you can do better.

Worst excuse for a movie!

After watching this I painfully ripped out my eyes. I would have rather went to the theaters for Barney than see this. The story goes nowhere. The ending also left me wishing I never had begun watching it.
