When a group of women are mysteriously abducted, it becomes a case right out of The X-Files™. The best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully, who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere…and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: In not knowing who it needs to please, I Want to Believe pleases no one.
Rotten: There may be no going back, as much as we might want to believe otherwise.
Rotten: The X-Files: I Want to Believe is atmospheric and moves briskly, but it's basically TV writ large.
Rotten: Rather than providing a springboard to a movie franchise, this film puts the final nail in The X-Files' coffin. Mulder and Scully can now fade into pop culture history.
A smaller, but no less worthy X Files
I am thoroughly befuddled by the fans who did not like this. I can understand a casual viewer who didn't know the show wandering into a theater and being unimpressed by "I Want To Believe". To appreciate it, you had to have a familiarity with the arc of Mulder and Scully's relationship. This is the film's one big flaw, but it also gives it an odd sort of resonance. Watching it in the theater, (I was one of the 1,141 fans who went, apparantly) I felt like this was a personal message to me as a viewer from Duchovny, Anderson and Carter. This movie doesn't wrap up all the Big Alien Conspiracies. It doesn't even feature much in the way of the Supernatural. But it does, once and for all, end any ambiguity concerning the Mulder & Scully arc, something the show simply failed to do. And for me, the X Files ultimately is about them, Mulder & Scully, not the Monsters they hunt.
X-Files: Next Gen
While the movie was not a part of the x-files typical story arch, if anyone is a fan and watched ALL episodes, they will see that the movie is in fact a part of the overall story. It has elements of older stories with the stealing of body parts, secret medical labs, nazi doctors, etc. For anyone, watch all nine years before making stupid comments - that is what made the movie fail. (Besides being up against Batman at the box office)
Good ending to the series
This was the closure to the series that was needed for all X-Philes.
