Rotten: In not knowing who it needs to please, I Want to Believe pleases no one. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: There may be no going back, as much as we might want to believe otherwise. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The X-Files: I Want to Believe is atmospheric and moves briskly, but it's basically TV writ large. – Lou Lumenick, New York Post, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Rather than providing a springboard to a movie franchise, this film puts the final nail in The X-Files' coffin. Mulder and Scully can now fade into pop culture history. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Jun 24, 2010

Good ending to the series

This was the closure to the series that was needed for all X-Philes.

meh

the movie wasnt as good as the tv show but any fan should see it. i didnt think it was that great, but hey, how can i give the x-files anything less than 4 stars. also, chris carter will make a third movie if this does well and this one will be about aliens which is what he shouldve done so buy buy buy!

How did anyway like this?

Huge disappointment. When I went to see this movie in theaters, I was on the verge of falling asleep halfway in. The normal episodes are generally exciting and keep you on the edge of your seat but this is just bad. It's almost like they felt like making a generic X-Files episode as long as possible to call it a movie. I could easily name 30 episodes with more material than this and those are half the time. This movie was a big wast of time.
