About the Movie
John Carpenter wrote and directed this science fiction thriller about a group of aliens who try to take over the world by disguising themselves as Young Republicans. Wrestler Roddy Piper stars as John Nada, a drifted who makes his way into an immense encampment for the homeless. There he stumbles upon a conspiracy concerning aliens who have hypnotized the populace through subliminal messages transmitted through television, magazines, posters, and movies. When Nada looks through special Ray-Bans developed by the resistance leaders, the aliens lose their clean-cut "Dan Quayle" looks and resemble crusty-looking reptiles. Nada joins the underground, teaming up with rebel-leader Frank (Keith David) to eradicate the lizard-like aliens from the body politic.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Credibility isn't the problem with John Carpenter's They Live... but execution is.
Fresh: A fantastically subversive film, a nifty little confection pitting us vs them, the haves vs the have-nots.
Fresh: The joke is in the material; the idea itself is funny and daring. And some time soon, They Live suggests, with grim, knowing wink, the joke may be on us.
Fresh: They Live is the looniest movie of the season and also one of the most engaging.
Listen let's be honest this is the pinnacle of formula A cheesy action flicks. And it is excellent. Great one-liners, Good action. Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David are excellent and the movie features them both in a gloriously brutal and exquisitely long knock down drag out fight. If you rent or purchase enjoy it for what it is. CHEESE!!
This movie DELIVERS!!!
Great movie, with deep insight into the political and social climate of our times. Its also very funny and delivers on the ACTION!!! John Carpenter is a great and somewhat underrated director.
Too real ...
Ok, maybe we're not being manipulated by aliens from outter space, but the West is certainly being manipulated by foreign aliens and international corporations on a daily basis. This movie could be thought of as a discussion in class-war, race-war, consumerism, capitalism, zionism, and many other 'isms of the age. Or just as a clever "horror" film. However you choose to view the film, you won't be disappinted.
