Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Sound too bleak? For some, perhaps. But in McDonagh's careful hands, it's a Cirque du Soleil-like tightrope walk, gracefully balancing the harrowing with the humorous.
Fresh: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri tells the story of a woman emulating God's vengeance when she might profit more by emulating his forgiveness, especially toward herself.
Fresh: Despite McDonagh's cinematic hyperbole, it's the strength of the performances from McDormand, Harrelson and Rockwell that keeps "Three Billboards" sturdily anchored in a compellingly rendered reality.
Fresh: Director Martin McDonagh injects his signature brand of dark humour into the proceedings to create an absorbing portrait of how ignoble the quest for justice can be and how moral foot-stomping can often signal that something important is being overlooked.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
This movie was an absolute delight to watch. It's incredibly well acted and well written and directed. This is a movie that deals with some pretty dark subject matter, including avoiding real crimes to sustain a good public image and so on. It does it with an amazing tone of dark humor, a staple of Martin McDonagh. Frances is heart breaking and amazing at doing her job: acting. Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell aregreat at playing the police officers strugglingagainst Frances' character. Everyone does a great job and you will like this movie greatly. I would say more, but this is a film that you should really see without knowing too much, because it will be the best treat ever. So watch it, the watch it again.
Beware, a dark comedy with violence. Really, really good!
Deserves The Praise
This is one of those real gems where it has a total indie feel, but never artsy for artsy-sake. The characters are very well defined and not one is an out-and-out innocent hero and the main 3 take turns I didn't see coming. It does not take the easy way at all. It's got the laughs, it's got the big moments, it's got a very satisfying ending that is not tied up with a bow at all. Worth the watch!
