About the Movie

Pulsing with the rhythm of his greatest stand-up, Chris Rock’s TOP FIVE takes things to the next level, reveling in the high and the low, and blending a star-studded comedic romp with an irresistible romance. TOP FIVE digs under the surface of show business, politics, rap, and the exigencies of being black and famous today—holding it all up to the light in the way only Chris Rock can. Mingling echoes of Woody Allen and Dick Gregory with the energy of Kanye West and Jay Z, TOP FIVE is an original and radically new kind of American movie. Written by, directed by, and starring Chris Rock, TOP FIVE tells the story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen, whose unexpected encounter with a journalist (Rosario Dawson) forces him to confront the comedy career—and the past—that he’s left behind. TOP FIVE is the star-studded comedy critics are calling “dazzlingly, uproariously funny”.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Like Rock's best stand-up shows, Top Five mixes the sweet with the salty, the naughty with the remarkably kind. It celebrates the darkly hilarious with the light of whip-smart observations. – Lisa Kennedy, Denver Post, Dec 12, 2014

Fresh: A seriously funny, semi-autobiographical film that might be the most accomplished work Chris Rock has ever done for the big screen. – Richard Roeper, Richard, Dec 14, 2014

Fresh: Top Five is hardly in the same class as Stardust Memories but it is still manifestly cinema, rather than filmed comedy, and the gags are often visually sophisticated. – Ryan Gilbey, New Statesman, May 14, 2015

Fresh: Top Five is packed full of zingers even if, at first glance, the familiar tale of a comic-turned- actor desperately seeking credibility promises to be an indulgent 102 minutes. – James Mottram, Total Film, May 7, 2015

Customer Reviews

Top Five? Yes.

Top Five is absolutely brilliant! A comedy that is so much more than just jokes. Rock offers insights into the entertainment industry, this generation’s obsession with anything “reality tv” related, and more importantly love and unbridled honesty.

This move is a must see… and then see it again. Thank you Chris Rock for this gift of a film.

This movie bad

Could have been good but wasn't. Love to Chris and Rosaria though.

Top Five movie review

This film was so funny. Hilarious. This film really put Chris Rock back on top. So funny. Even though it was vulgar at times, it still managed to be funny and hilarious, which is what Chris Rock's stand-up did. Just a really great and funny film from Chris Rock. 5/5
