Bree (Felicity Huffman) is a perfectly adjusted conservative transsexual woman. Born Stanley, a genetic male, she's about to take the final step to becoming the woman Stanley always wanted to be - until she finds out that she is the parent of a long-lost 17 year-old son (Kevin Zegers). Afraid to tell the rebellious teenager the truth, Bree embarks on a journey with him that will challenge and change both their lives and bring them closer to the truth of their connection. Transamerica is a funny, touching, completely modern look at the modern American family, starring Emmy award winner Felicity Huffman and Kevin Zegers. Transamerica has won numerous festival prizes, including awards for best film at the Berlin Film Festival, San Francisco's Frameline festival and the Woodstock Film Festival, and the award for Best Screenplay at France's 2005 Deauville Festival of American Film.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Huffman's performance redeems parts of the movie but, until the final 30 minutes, Transamerica too often feels like a journey to nowhere.
Fresh: Huffman makes it a must-see.
Fresh: It's a farce with heart, a meditation on identity, family and gender politics that has real faith in its characters -- even when the characters themselves lack it.
Fresh: Tucker never allows transsexualism to degenerate into a gimmick, although the movie sometimes seems to be having difficulty extending its admiration to anyone but Bree and Toby.
An award winner...
The acting, directing, writing, and plot are all superb. A controversial story that connects with the lives of everyone of us, and can really open up the eyes of some individuals. 5 stars.
This film was a great surprise for me. I expected to see girly boys swooshing around being bi**hy. Au contraire -it was beautiful, sensitive, and really, really well done. The actors were convincing and the topic compelling.
