About the Movie

A single mother living in inner city Chicago, Brenda has been struggling for years to make ends meet and keep her three kids off the street. But when she's laid off with no warning, she starts losing hope for the first time - until a letter arrives announcing the death of a father she's never met. Desperate for any kind of help, Brenda takes her family to Georgia for the funeral. But nothing could have prepared her for the Browns, her father's fun-loving, crass Southern clan. In a small-town world full of long afternoons and country fairs, Brenda struggles to get to know the family she never knew existed, and finds a brand new romance that just might change her life.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns often plays more like Tyler Perry's Greatest Hits as it recycles various elements from the writer-director's earlier works. – Joe Leydon, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: An adaptation of one of his stage plays, Meet the Browns gives off the distinct feeling that Perry is treading water or at the very least is content to satisfy his audience with the minimum. – Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times, Oct 18, 2008

Rotten: The film demonstrates all too vividly its creator's penchant for soap opera-style melodramatics, absurdly broad comedy and offensively stereotypical characterizations. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Meet the Browns is packed with raucous dinner-table banter and broad double takes; sometimes the gags are funny, but usually they're just trying too hard. – Stephanie Zacharek,, Jul 7, 2010

Seriously worth buying!!!!!

The funniest movie this year! Worth buying and watching.... Tyler Perry did a great job with this movie... 5 stars

Clearly Worth To Buy!!!!!!

Meet The Browns are one of the best Tyler Perry movies ever created yet all the actors are funny. I wouldn't doubt or tell anyone this was a bad movie it combines life long lessons about fathers combining laughter and some emotional clips but overall I'll give it a score higher than a 10 it'll be a 100 in my book. Anyone who wants laughter, emotion and a movie worth to watch check this out.

Good, but Not Great

This movie was decent. It was very predictable at times and the short Madea scene was not funny. Tyler Perry's movies always have a good message and the actors in the movie did a good job. Overall it was a typical Tyler Perry movie, a little drama mixed in with a little laughter. I would recommend renting it.
