About the Movie

Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces this epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis "Louie" Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived on a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII – only to be caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand's (Seabiscuit: An American Legend) enormously popular book, it’s the inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: "Unbroken" is a rousing old-fashioned yarn with numerous exciting set-pieces and an uncomplicated hero you root for all the way through. It's entertaining throughout and made with a high level of technical skill. – Andrew O'Hehir,, Jan 4, 2015

Fresh: "Unbroken" stirs a moviegoer by default; it's an astounding story of human endurance that has been brought a little too safely to the screen. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Dec 26, 2014

Rotten: A tale of endurance, "Unbroken" takes endurance to sit through. – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal, Dec 25, 2014

Rotten: Unbroken is a fitting title for this excruciating cinematic treatment of the flyboy's ordeal. It plays like an endless, unrelieved gauntlet of suffering, an onslaught untempered by grace or redemption. – David Hiltbrand, Philadelphia Inquirer, Dec 25, 2014

A reminder in my life

I bought this movie and have watched it more than 3 times now. An amazing true story about an incredible guy who overcomes numerous hardships that I can't even imagine. I think Jolie did a great job directing the movie, highly recommended! If you want a movie that motivates you to aim higher, this is it! If you can take it, you can make it

Great Movie!!

Okay so it may appear to be a little slow at times, and it takes a while to get going. Overall though it is a great movie, is it the best war movie ever? No, but it stand apart from many of them out today. I would watch it again just for the incredible story of a man who lived through something most of us could not have imagined! Before or after watching the movie you should look up Louie’s past, it makes it an even more powerful movie! Watch it! My wife and I loved it!

If you're a true American

Even though he's Italian, this movie depicts the cause and effect of Japanese prison camps and how they had an affect on the prisoners. To the people who rated this movie badly: all you want to hear is foul language. All you want to see is inappropriate stuff. That's not at all what this movie is about. So for all of the parents that are protective of their kids, this movie is much better (and cleaner) than say...Fury or American Sniper. This movie is old fashioned and deserves 5 stars.
