About the Movie

Even in war-torn Kashmir, beauty and hope remain. Gulzar is a sensitive and poetic soul, struggling to make ends meet with his tourist boat on breathtaking Dal Lake. Fed up with the violence surrounding him, he plans to run away with his street-smart best friend Afzal, but a military curfew forces them to delay their escape. Stranded, the two friends discover Asifa, a beautiful young scientist researching the lake. As Gulzar becomes Asifa’s lake guide, they form an unlikely bond. With the end of the curfew looming, and tensions with Afzal rising, Gulzar must decide whether to leave for a new life or stay with a new love.

A very idyllic yet chaotic film

I am amazed at how Musa Syeed captured the tension and fluidity of Dal Lake and its residents, and exhibited their microcosmic representation of Kashmir as a whole. In both the characters and the setting, he shows how such beauty can flourish in the most stressful of states.
