Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: If Crowe's eyes are open, he seems to have directed most of Vanilla Sky with his mind wide shut.
Rotten: What works in a quirky foreign film can look silly with expansive Hollywood treatment.
Rotten: Who would have thought that Cameron Crowe had a movie as bad as Vanilla Sky in him?
Fresh: [A] spectacular film!
Cameron Crowe's best film by far
Vanilla Sky has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. The first time I watched it I hated it. Then I thought about it and I got it. Its a lyrical dream that that kind of questions what is reality and what is fantasy. Its more of an experience than a movie. It will stick with you long after you've viewed it and it will incite strong feelings and any movie that can do that is worth your time. Its a remake of a Spanish Film called Abre Los Ojos which is also a great movie but there's a more dream-like quality to the american version. Cameron Crowe has proven that he's more than just some "tug at your Heartstrings" director and really shows a much more artistic side. I can't recommend this movie enough!
A misunderstood film.
Most people miss the entire point of this excellent movie, it's a story about true love, the consequences of decisions, and the beauty of life.
Abre Los Ojos....Open Your Eyes
"David Open your Eyes" From the Direction of the talented filmmaker that is Cameron Crowe, came Vanilla Sky (a remake of a spanish Foreign film). I constantly rewatched this movie over and over for years mainly because what hooks you into the film is the Facinating combination of Cinematography (the whole movie feels like a beautiful painting) and Cameron Crowe's Outstanding taste for Great music. Like Crowe has proven throughout his film career (Say anything to Jerry Maguire to Elizabethtown) is that he knows how to keep an ear out for life changing tunes and then he applies them to his films This Motion Picture was no different, and by the time you have experienced the Vanilla Sky for yourself and hear Peter Gabriels' Solsbury Hill within the Beauty....You yourself will have "Open Your Eyes"
