Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Only Radcliffe escapes unscathed, lending Igor a convincing psychology despite the ham-fistedness of the material. But he's not enough of a reason to resurrect this story again. – Kyle Anderson, Entertainment Weekly, Nov 25, 2015

Rotten: "Victor Frankenstein" goes uphill ... for a bit before plummeting downhill fast. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Nov 25, 2015

Rotten: This un-terrifying film tries to find an interesting twist on the classic Frankenstein tale, but horrifically fails. – Allen Salkin, New York Daily News, Nov 25, 2015

Rotten: To avoid the accusation that it's an unnecessary remake of an oft-told story, screenwriter Max Landis has reduced Mary Shelly's cautionary tale to a bad comic book, bereft of soul and intelligence. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Nov 26, 2015

Very good

I like this Move it was a bit darker then I’d expected, but still very good and defiantly worth a year wait. I think the problem was it came out the wrong time of the year.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!

First off let me say that I'm rarely one to write reviews and so on and so forth.

Now down to business. I have become used to critics giving bad reviews on movies and music that deserve much much better recognition. This, unfortunately is the case with Victor Frankenstein.

First of all regarding the acting. It was nothing short of Class-A acting. Make no mistake, James McAvoy is a near Platinum actor in Victor Frankenstein and nothing short of it. He managed to possess the role in an utmostly believable, hypnotizing and charismatic manner. Daniel Radcliffe was not kidding when he said James gave a "phenomenal" performance in the movie, which brings us to Daniel, who plays Igor. I've known who Daniel Radcliffe is since I was a kid, and honestly he wasn't a terribly great actor in the Harry Potter movies. He was okay, but not that good. Well ladies and gentlemen prepare to be taken away by Daniel Radcliffe in Victor Frankenstein. He truly has redeemed himself. Not once did I remember Harry Potter while watching Victor Frankenstein, only Igor did I see, and that's a good thing, a very good thing indeed. The rest of the cast did a great job as well. All in all the acting is very good, and "phenomenal" on James's part.

Secondly, the story. This is the story about Victor Frankenstein, the man who created the monster. This isn't a horror flick. This isn't a crappy movie with stupid scares scattered all over to raise your heart rate for no actual purpose. This is a more mature story, with a lot of philosophical weight, if you have the eyes (and brains) to see it that is. This isn't Macbeth, this is much more real. Believe me, this movie sheds a lot of light on the stupidity and ignorance of today's society, especially on certain sensitive matters, even though it's centered around Victorian England. I will not share any information on the actual story, but know this, if you’re going to watch this movie (and you really should), keep an open mind and try to view the story from Victor Frankenstein's point of view as the story progresses. If you do this, then you will see how truly great this movie really is.

Finally, the soundtrack/score. Fantastic and very, very well thought out for the movie. It does nothing but make the experience all the more powerful and touching. I already own it on iTunes and I will buy the CD when I get the chance.

The trailer is a joke. Do not count on it to give you the feel of how the movie actually is. I have watched this movie 3 times in the theater already, yes three times, and I plan on watching it again. Don't let the negative critic reviews lead you away from one of the best movies of 2015, if not the twenty-first century.

One of the best movies I saw in my life 😊
