About the Movie
Steampunk started as a subgenre of science fiction fascinated with steam-powered machinery and alternative histories frequently set in Victorian England. “Vintage Tomorrows” examines steampunk’s transformation from those sci-fi beginnings into a global cultural movement that influences art, fashion, design and music. Through in-depth interviews with the writers and artists who galvanized the movement, “Vintage Tomorrows” asks what steampunk can tell us about history, community and our complicated relationship with technology. The movie features interviews with steampunk’s pioneering voices, including writers William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Cory Doctorow, China Miéville, Cherie Priest, Gail Carriger; graphic novelists Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett, musicians Abney Park and Erica “Unwoman” Mulkey, artist/maker Shannon O’Hare and the Neverwas Haul crew, and many more.

Sci Fi and Steampunk Fans Must See!
Following on from McDonald’s early excursion into the world of niche documentary lives (with his excellent film ‘Haunters’) ‘Vintage’ becomes a glossier, prettier look at a segment of the population that truly embodies its subject (steampunk). More than simply turning a watchful lens to its subject matter, this film is a slick-looking production full of big sci-fi names like Cory Doctorow and William Gibson. If you’re a sci fi or steampunk fan, this documentary will most certainly appeal to your sensibilities!
It's a Whole New World
I wouldn't call myself a steampunk but this doc is a fascinating look into a world I didn't know anything about. The people are utterly enthralling and the depth the film is able to delve into is so eye-opening. Highly recommend!
Fascinating!
Saw this at SIFF, Seattle. Interesting take on a 21st century cultural movement...great dialogue and fascinating characters. I found the dinner-table environment a very unique use of focus and reverie.
