In WALK AWAY RENEE, director Jonathan Caouette embarks on a road trip to move his mentally ill mother Renee across the country. As they encounter roadblocks in the present, we begin to flash back to moments from the past, giving us insight into this anything-but-ordinary mother/son relationship. Through musical montage, psychedelic sequences and real and imagined circumstance, the film raises questions about love, sacrifice, and the reality in which we live.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: "Walk Away Renee" lets us observe a mother-son bond, but Mr. Caouette hasn't found a way to galvanize this incarnation of material for strangers.
Rotten: Renee really does feel something like a remake of Tarnation, this time with more budget and less feeling.
Fresh: Hermetic, autobiographical, messy, and ultimately touching.
Fresh: No filmmaker, especially one this compassionate, should be criticized for mining a rich vein over two efforts.
