About the Movie
Autobigraphical film follows the director as he tries to recover blacked-out memories of his experiences fighting in the 1982 Israel-Lebanon war. The movie's title comes from a key moment when a soldier in Folman's platoon enters a kind of fugue state, firing his gun while dancing in the street in front of a billboard of former Lebanese prime minister Bashir Gemavel.

Fresh: The message of the futility of war has rarely been painted with such bold strokes.
Fresh: A powerful, poignant and provocative film, told in an unconventional and effective fashion.
Fresh: Special, strange and peculiarly potent.
Fresh: These depictions of the dementia of war have a hallucinatory power that can stand alongside those of Apocalypse Now.
Great Movie. Not Anti-Israeli
One of the reviews here was this it was Anti-Israeli. Actually, I think it sheds Israeli's in the greatest of light. The fact that there is actually penance and mourning for thousands of unnecessary deaths from the Israeli community shows Israel's continued struggle with peace. This is a beautiful film that touches of one (of the many, many) wars in the Middle East—The Lebanese War of the 1970's. All three of the monotheistic denominations were involved in this terrible war—the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims. This film talks about all three of them and about none of them. There are many perspectives to this war, this is just one of them. It actually seldom mentions any disdain for any particular religious denomination, rather disdain for the ultimate casualties of war. Beautiful film, a must see.
Moving and compelling
I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw this, but I was pleased to discover its simplicity and beauty. It simultaneously portrays war as mundane and sensational. Very human. A highly recommended film.
The first person to comment on this movie obviously did not get it. If you take what the surface offers a person may come to those conclusions, but there is so much they would miss out on. There is so much internal debate and realization in the main character, which brings the viewer to a true understanding of what the movie is trying to explain. Incredible film.
