Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Considering that the fate of humankind is at stake, "War of the Worlds: Goliath" is remarkably uninvolving. – Neil Genzlinger, New York Times, Mar 6, 2014

Rotten: Noisy battle scenes a la 'Transformers' and 'Starship Troopers' mar this pedestrian animated sequel to H.G. Wells' original story. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Mar 7, 2014

Rotten: "War of the Worlds: Goliath" is just a few cereal commercials shy of a pointlessly cartoon marathon - violent, messily drawn and lifelessly dragging. – Martin Tsai, Los Angeles Times, Mar 7, 2014

Rotten: Like a feature-length Saturday morning cartoon with dashes of violence so graphic you'd swear you'd just stepped into Ralph Bakshi's Wizards. – Michael Nordine, Village Voice, Mar 4, 2014

It's worth renting and watching but I wouldn't buy it. Not for 20$ anyway.

Not bad

I have to agree with Dragonblitz a good rental but 20 dollers it is not worth it. But I will say this. It was far better then the 2005 Tom Cruise version

This movie was quite a disappointment for me, I had a good bit of hype built up, but overall, it did not live up to it even remotely. Out of the gates I was most bothered by the character design, it looked like the worst possible combination of western cartoons and anime. The animation quality wasn’t terrible, but it was nothing special either, though not being a big budget film, this is excusable. The story could have been much more involved than it was, and had almost no character development beyond the main character, who had next to none. The action sequences felt very dry, and were incredibly predictable. See a lot of un-named characters with the main heroes? They’re dispatched instantly, the heroes swoop in and are victorious, and this is repeated in essentially every battle. The battle also generally consist of both sides tripods slowing plodding straight towards each other with guns blazing. Now the movie isn’t horrible, but it definitely was not for me, after watching it I almost feel I would have enjoyed this more had I been 15-20 years younger, though the advertisements and hype I was exposed to were not in places that would reflect this. Would be a fun action movie for kids, but it’s far too lacking for an older audience.
