About the Movie

WARRIOR tells the inspirational story of an estranged family that finds redemption in the unlikeliest of places…the MMA ring. Tommy Riordan (Tom Hardy), an ex-marine with a tragic past, returns home and enlists his father (Nick Nolte), a recovering alcoholic and former wrestling coach, to train him for “Sparta”, the biggest MMA tournament ever held. But when Tommy’s underdog brother, Brendan (Joel Edgerton), fights his way into the tournament, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart. What ensues is the most gut-wrenching, soul-stirring, and unforgettable battle of their lives.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Director Gavin O'Connor comes out swinging in this flawed but fiercely moving family drama...Strong stuff. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Sep 9, 2011

Rotten: Warrior's three principle characterizations are compelling - Nolte in particular gives a tempered performance as the shambling, sad-eyed wreck of a dad - but not enough to mask the film's lesser elements. – Mary F. Pols, TIME Magazine, Sep 10, 2011

Fresh: Warrior ends up feeling a lot bigger than you expect it to. – Bob Mondello, NPR, Sep 16, 2011

Fresh: The movie is so skillfully made, and the performances are so convincingly real (Hardy is sensational), that, as it reaches its cathartic, winning finish, it achieves a surprising compassion and honesty. – Bruce Diones, New Yorker, Sep 19, 2011

Really really good

This movie was really good but it would be better if it was a true sory

One of the best movies i've ever seen. can't wait to buy it.

The best sports drama film to date

In every sports drama film, there was always an underdog overcoming the arrogant champion, the washed up and or aging athletes seeking redemption, and coaches who comes up with a speech to boost the morale on his team every half time. In this film, the Mixed Martial Arts tournament serves as a backdrop to a broken family composed of two brothers and their father. You have the elder brother, Brendan (Joel Edgerton) who enters the tournament to save his home from foreclosure, while the young brother, Tommy (Tom Hardy) enters to make a promise to his fallen comrade by giving the prize money to the widowed. The father (Nick Nolte) however, longs to redeem himself by reconciling with his children, who in fact also are...estranged. What's so unique about Warrior is that there is no clear protagoinst or antagoinst, it is about their own issues that they're up against...especially Tommy who has this very deep resentment on the two. The fight choreography was awesome and thrilling especially in the climax, hands down to Mr. Gavin O' Connor. It goes on my list as one of the best films of all time.
