About the Movie

In a futuristic resort, wealthy patrons can visit recreations of different time periods and experience their wildest fantasies with life-like robots. But when Richard Benjamin ("Goodbye, Columbus") opts for the wild west, he gets more than he bargained for when a gunslinger robot, portrayed by Academy Award-winner Yul Brynner ("The King and I", "The Magnificent Seven"), goes berserk. Written and directed by "Jurassic Park" author and "E.R." creator Michael Crichton. With Emmy-winner James Brolin ("Marcus Welby, M.D.", "Hotel") and Dick Van Patten (TV's "Eight is Enough"). Followed by a sequel, "Futureworld".

Westworld is worth a rent C+

Perspectively speaking, this movie is way ahead of it's time. The actor performances are subpar at best, but I think the content came through...for the most part. At the very least, it's somewhat entertaining. I would love to see what they could do now days with this movie and it's intentions. By the way, stay away from the sequel to this one called "Futureworld" with Peter Fonda. It stinks beyond belief.

"Draw." When Yul Brynner says this, you're bound to be dead.

Anyway, this film was written and directed by Michael Crichton. This is obvious since it involves a theme park going horribly wrong. Anyway, the gunslinger robot was an inspiration to two famous icons by the way. He was John Carpenter's inspiration for Michael Myers (yeah, baby......NO NOT THAT ONE, but the killer with the William Shatner mask) and he was the inspiration for the Terminator (think about it....a killer robot stalking you to no end). This science fiction, along with The Forbinn Project (did I spell that right?) and the Star Trek episode "The Ultimate Computer" inspired the idea of a super computer taking over everything. That is something I want you guys to think about before watching Terminator and Matrix.

One of the best movies of all time. Predates Terminator, but if you like Terminator, see this film.
