About the Movie

This Sundance Award winner and critically acclaimed drama follows nineteen year-old Alice. Fed up with her small-town New England life, dead-end job and an embarrassing mother, Alice takes off to follow her college-bound friend down to Florida. But her car breaks down on the highway. Bad luck? Or was the engine sabotaged at a rest stop? Middle-aged Good Samaritans, Sandra and Bill, appear out of nowhere and offer Alice a ride the rest of the way south in their RV. Sandra takes Alice in as if she were her own daughter, and Alice happily accepts the attention. But as the highway miles pass, Alice soon realizes things aren't always what they seem to be. With music from Emmylou Harris and Beth Orton.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: What Alice Found, a small, finely wrought drama about a naive young woman who gets lost on the American highway, gives that wonderfully salty New York stage actress Judith Ivey one of the chewiest roles of her career. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: A solid character piece that deftly probes the complicity of both sides in a morally dubious relationship. – Todd McCarthy, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Sweet, suspenseful, funny, poignant -- and adult. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Bell stays focused on the interstate milieu, but it's difficult to believe a frame of it. – Michael Atkinson, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010
